Program Mission: The Indiana University Computer Gaming Club (now called Gaming @ IU) was founded in 1998 by two brothers, Adam and Jonathan Sweeny. The original club activity was weekly game nights in the Kelley School of Business, featuring Starcraft, Unreal Tournament, and Age of Empires in LAN mode. As time went on, games became too complicated to run in public computing labs, and the club began gatherings once a semester instead, where participants would bring their own system, and play for an extended period of time at events called LAN wars. Starting in the 2014-2015 Academic year, the Gaming @ IU club refocused, intending to serve as a portal to all gaming activities at the university, highlighting the work other Student Organizations were doing for their supported game, game design, and featuring RolePlaying and Wargaming clubs as well. Around that same time Esports at IU was born. Focusing on the competitive aspect of games like League of Legends and Counter Strike the club has grown alongside Esports as a whole. Now the club houses over 5 different competitive titles with around 15 active teams making it one of the largest in the country!
